Google Messages

Messaging for Android users

Google Messages is Google’s messaging app for sending and receiving texts, photos, videos and group messages. It suits Android users who want a standard conversation app with support for both traditional SMS/MMS and richer RCS chats, where available. The app is developed by Google LLC and listed in the Communication category.

Richer conversations with RCS

RCS adds features that go beyond basic texting. Depending on your carrier and region, you can share higher-quality media, see when someone is typing, and take part in more capable group conversations. RCS chats can also connect with supported contacts using other platforms, including iPhone users. Availability may depend on the device, network and data plan.

Useful chat features

• Send messages, images and videos in one conversation.
• Use group chats with richer media and interaction options.
• Apply chat customisation such as bubble colours and expressive selfie GIFs.
• Use spam protection to help identify unwanted messages.
• Continue conversations across supported phones, tablets, computers and Wear OS devices.
